Sometimes difficult experiences affect us in ways that are hard to put into words.
At Evans Counseling Group, we offer Brainspotting therapy in Denver, a focused, body-aware approach that explores the connection between eye position, emotional experiences, and physical sensations.
Working with our Brainspotting-trained therapist, Rae, clients can explore difficult emotions and experiences in a supportive environment, at a pace that feels comfortable and manageable.
When Brainspotting Therapy Can Help
Brainspotting is a therapeutic approach that uses focused eye positions and awareness of physical sensations to explore emotional experiences. It may appeal to people who find certain feelings or memories difficult to process through conversation alone.
Brainspotting may be explored as part of therapy for:
-
Trauma and distressing life experiences
-
Anxiety and persistent emotional distress
-
Grief, loss, and difficult life transitions
-
Emotional overwhelm and stress
-
Difficult memories that continue to affect daily life
-
Self-esteem and emotional challenges
-
Experiences that are difficult to express in words
Brainspotting is an emerging approach, and research into its effectiveness is still developing. Your therapist can help you determine whether it may be appropriate for your individual needs and goals.

How Brainspotting Therapy Works
Brainspotting is based on the idea that where we look may influence how we connect with emotional experiences. During a session, your therapist helps you identify specific eye positions, sometimes called brainspots, while paying attention to thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations.

Sessions are collaborative and tailored to your comfort level. Your therapist may incorporate several elements:

Focused Eye Positioning — Your therapist guides you in identifying an eye position associated with an emotional experience or physical response.

Body Awareness — You may be invited to notice sensations such as tension, discomfort, or changes in how your body feels as you explore an experience.
Mindful Processing — Rather than needing to explain every detail of a difficult memory, you can observe thoughts, feelings, and sensations as they arise.

A Supportive Therapeutic Relationship — Your therapist helps create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you can explore difficult experiences at your own pace
.
Individualized Treatment — Brainspotting may be integrated with other therapeutic approaches depending on your needs, preferences, and treatment goals.

Brainspotting is still being studied, and its proposed mechanisms and effectiveness have not been firmly established. Your therapist can discuss its potential benefits and limitations with you.
